Review: Squad Tactics Class 9/26: Larry

Squad Tactics Review

Max Velocity Tactical (MVT) is a premier training facility with two top-rate instructors in Max and Scott. This was my fifth class at MVT and will not be my last. Every class the staff runs is professional, safe, and full of opportunities to learn. I never felt unsafe or that things were getting out of control. Both Max and Scott have a firm grip on what is going on at all times and are situationally aware of everything in the class – which is apparent with the debrief that they give at the conclusion of each scenario.

Squad Tactics is the capstone of the MVT curriculum. Everything from HEAT 1 Combat Tactics, HEAT 2 Combat Patrol, CQB, and Trench Assault gets pulled into this course. While the CQB and Trench Assault courses use airsoft against a live opposing force (OpFor), HEAT 1 and HEAT 2 are live-fire with reactive targets. In Squad Tactics you run those same scenarios against a live OpFor that is shooting back, with the instructors changing elements each iteration. That keeps every run unique.

Student welfare was a constant priority. That showed in how they had us load and unload airsoft rifles, how they handled donning and removing PPE, and how they managed medical issues — EpiPens, students feeling ill, possible allergic reactions, med-bag locations, and evac points. The staff stayed organized and consistent across all four days. The weekend was exceptionally humid and several students felt it starting on day one. Instructors noticed immediately, kept people hydrated throughout the day, and reminded everyone at the end of each day to eat a solid meal and keep drinking water when they left the facility. The first thing we discussed the next morning was how we felt and whether we’d gotten enough food and water. That kind of attention does not go unnoticed. It builds trust and is part of why the training runs so well.

This class will challenge you physically, mentally, and emotionally to see each mission through. You will get pushed in ways you may not have been before. You will be wrong and you will fail. Don’t be afraid of it, embrace it; as failure is the best teacher in this environment and Max and Scott will surely remind you of that!

If you want the best training available from a staff with real-world experience, it starts and ends with MVT.
