We don’t have broadcast television in our house. What I do is get movies and video from the local library. This is one series I pick up about every six months or so. My 8 and 10 year olds request it.
Confession: I cry during this movie. So damn good, start to end. What these people sacrificed for us and now so many piss it away, well, it’s infuriating! Buy it.

My ancestors fought there. A militia that later joined the new Army. Sometimes in my darker moments I feel the America I was raised to be proud of never existed , but it did exist for these men , and could again , for us.
I have the discs of john adams and have passes them on to my adult children who watched and loved them,everyone should watch
Perhaps one of, if not THE best portrayal of the Revolution and how costly it was. Unromantic and unapologetic. John Adams was like many Americans are today, “Surely it won’t come to war. Surely we can work it out with an election.” But once he realized compromise was impossible, he devoted himself fully.
I was fortunate enough to have read the biography that the series is based off of. While there was some artistic license taken with some of the characters and time line issues, I am convinced that the series remained true to the spirit of John and Abigail Adams.
I have watched this through twice with my kids (17, 14, 12, 8, and 5) and they all enjoy it too. It is a great teaching tool about the continuing struggle for freedom and liberty.
I believe the entire collection of correspondence between Adams and Jefferson is available online and in book format. Also the Jefferson Cyclopedia published by Funk and Wagnalls is out there. Two friends that had major political differences that got nasty at times. But the respect they had for each other was evident in the letters. Two great men.
