Carroll County Reenactment & The Little Fork Rangers
This is a sample of video that was taken of the Carroll County MD reenactment. This was a ‘no horses allowed’ event with the cavalry opting to reenact in the part of dismounted cavalry. This is actually a thing, with units that have no horses reenacting full time as dismounted cavalry. So we ‘galvanized’ (as it is known) and put on our Federal uniforms and played the part of Union dismounted cavalry, joining with a fully dismounted unit.
As dismounted cavalry, you will find yourself acting as skirmishers, flank protection, and even shock troops. You will be armed as per a cavalryman, but mainly you won’t take your sword, because it is a pain if you are permanently doing dismounted. You will carry a carbine and revolver(s). It’s really pretty cool!
I have started a new unit, the historical Little Fork Rangers which became Company D of the 4th Virginia Cavalry in 1861. We are recruiting any type of reenactors, and there will be a space for you at reenactments. Cavalry, dismounted cavalry and infantry! Read about it at the website below.
