Review: Squad Tactics 2024: Ronin

I originally meant this to be an AAR about how I could find things from this course useful in the future. However, given certain events that have happened since then, I believe some real life applications of the techniques learned would be much better suited.

I, along with many others, was affected by Hurricane Helene, which hit barely two weeks after the course had been completed. Thankfully, its direct impact was minimal on my life. Thus, putting me in a position to help others. As I went to help those in need, I found myself attached to a group who have done such activity before. All of us went to aid the local efforts from the nearby hotel and extra hands.

We found ourselves doing everything from search and recovery, to supply runs to areas that have not been visited in over a week since the storm, to assistance of locals in regaining their footing, and making networks for those who were helping as well as to get what they need to those who need it.

Not long after work began, I noticed that I had found myself using many of the lessons taught from the class. Such as:

  • Proper note taking and compilation.
  • Situating information to give a fast brief or warning order.
  • How to read the INTENT of a commanding officer towards a goal.
  • How to disseminate information quickly in an organized manner so everyone in the group can be made aware.
  • How to take information given and make use of it in an effective, and fast paced manner.
  • The place that one needs to be in order to get the mission effectively completed.
  • Along with many other lessons.

I found myself using more of these lessons throughout my entire time serving the neighboring community. I am unaware of another way to phrase this: However, I believe that because of these lessons learned directly from this course, there are at least a few families whose survival is secured, and that can rebuild what they have lost. All due to the simple and effective techniques learned from this class.
