This effort has received a good amount of attention on foreign area web sites. Much of the commentary centered on COL Barlow’s past and on the human rights aspects of the counter Boko effort. Basic hand wringing at its best.
These guys have thus far been effective at stopping Boko. Mir left in place for a bit longer, the will wipe out Boko and Nigeria will be a better place.
The training approach used by western forces, particularly the U.S., to train Africans is incorrectly focused. COL Barlow, it would seem, has addressed this problem.
Is suspect on the ground leadership, and the presence of expat combat teams, made a lot of the difference.
This is awesome example of what can be accomplished by a motivated group of veterans.
The following quoted for emphasis:
“The campaign gathered good momentum and wrested much of the initiative from the enemy,” said Col Barlow, 62. “It was not uncommon for the strike force to be met by thousands of cheering locals once the enemy had been driven from an area.”
He added: “Yes, many of us are no longer 20-year-olds. But with our age has come a knowledge of conflicts and wars in Africa that our younger generation employees have yet to learn, and a steady hand when things get rough.”
The following helps demonstrate the why politics of our so called help doesn’t get the desired results. Too much political correctness and strings attached. (simplistic, but true)
But the fact that the Nigerian government felt it necessary to bring them in raises questions about the level of help that it was receiving from the British and US militaries, who offered mentoring packages in the wake of Boko Haram’s kidnapping last year of more than 200 schoolgirls from the north-eastern town of Chibok.
All of this hints at the possible capability and success that such forces could have both here Post SHTF and in the fight against the Daesh (ISIS)!
Sad to say, but our guys are ham-strung by political implications. There is absolutely no reason US or Brit teams could not accomplish the same results, except the governments have their heads so far up their asses.
Also sad to say the South Africans, and I’d wager some Rhodesians as well, are still considered pariahs by the progressives. The governments that replaced them were so much better, as we see here.
At least these guys know there is no negotiating with evil. There is no dialogue, no common ground, no excuses for this behavior. You just wipe it out.
That’s why they, and by extension, we, are unacceptable.

Reading between the lines, I’d say they had a contingent of the Selous Scouts in their midst. This regiment employed ceaseless pursuit of terrorists through the African bush and cross border areas of Rhodesia.
Possibly one of the best counter-insurgency forces of their time.
Lest we forget the 24th Regiment of Foot at Rorkes Drift of course and 11 Victoria Crosses! The greatest number of VC’s awarded from a single engagement.

tactical issues aside…WTF? Whites are being democided by a Black Communist regime in SA…so White SA’s go to Nigeria and fight one gang of Blacks on behalf of another gang of Blacks. This sort of thing is why, via the current Globalist Protocol, Whites will be extinct by 2100. Undone by their own do-good Christian Universalism
