Review: HEAT 1 Combat Tactics April/May: Natalie

Max adds: This review was sent in by the daughter of a mother / daughter group who attended the HEAT 1 Combat Tactics Class. They had limited experience and came from a state where the AR15’s have been horrifically adjusted by the legal code, and that in itself made things a little harder for them. They did really well.

Review:

This course is challenging—but worth the effort. From the start, you build critical fundamentals, learning how to safely and effectively manipulate your weapon while maintaining awareness and respect for those around you. The foundation is clear: confidence and control come first before progressing into more complex movements.

As the class develops, you apply those fundamentals in small-team scenarios (2–4 people), reinforcing communication, coordination, and individual accountability. The progression feels intentional and realistic, giving you practical experience that sticks with you.

One of the most valuable aspects of the class is the range of participants you train with. Some have taken the class multiple times to continue building their skills, others have taken different classes with Max but are new to this course, and some, like myself, are completely new. The first class can be nerve-wracking, but the environment is supportive. Everyone is focused on learning, and there is mutual respect and encouragement throughout the class.

Max and Scott meet you at your current level, but they push you well beyond what you think you’re capable of. This is not an easy class, and the results you get are directly tied to the effort you’re willing to put in.

Max, in particular, has a direct and honest approach. He doesn’t sugarcoat feedback—he delivers it clearly and constructively, with the goal of making you better. At times, that honesty can be uncomfortable, but it forces you to confront shortcomings in your skills, physical ability, or mindset that you may be overlooking. By the end of the course, you not only recognize that value—you appreciate it.

If you’re willing to put in the work, this class will push you, sharpen you, and leave you more capable and confident than when you started.
