Trench (Strongpoint) Assault

This is a weekend (2 day) class, utilizing Airsim, focusing on trench clearance techniques and procedures. An excellent class for teaching not only the basics of trench clearance, but also communication, teamwork and leadership. This is a cross-over class utilizing a combination of skills taught in small unit tactics and close quarter battle classes, where the student is immersed in the crucible of complex trench clearance.

This is an airsim class utilizing live OPFOR (enemy forces). You will need an Airsim (airsoft style) rifle for this class as well as protective gear. Check out the AIRSIM PAGE for more information.

Grenades: This class utilizes simulated fragmentation grenades:

  1. For the bulk of the training (using tons of grenades!) we utilize empty grenade bodies, with cadre blowing an air horn after the required time delay to signify that the grenade has gone off. For this portion of the training, bring suitable grenade bodies that can even be the shells of the CO2 airsim grenades. So long as the grenade body is not to heavy and could potentially injure troops in the trenches by its thrown weight. We will have a number of these on hand if required.
  2. For the squad assault scenarios for the latter part of the training, we will utilize airsoft style bangers. This is a suitable airsoft style grenade that will make a bang or a pop to show that the grenade has exploded. We will not be using any grenades that contain dried peas or BB’s. It is up to students to bring a suitable number of these grenades so that we can run some scenarios using these, rather than the air horns.
  3. It is useful for every student to bring a ‘grenade bag’, usually a slung bag, for carrying the grenades in the trenches.

Gear: Check out the link below to the HEAT 1 Combat Tactics general gear requirements. substitute live fire equipment for Airsim gear as per the Airsim Page. Add sim grenades as per the information above.
