Where’s the Free Chicken???

I realize that I haven’t been doing as many in depth articles recently. That has been compensated for by the number of great student reviews and articles by MVT cadre. However, I am in the process of both running training classes and writing the sequel to ‘Patriot Dawn: The Resistance Rises.‘ Writing the sequel is something that is way overdue, and is partly due to a lot of time invested in both running training, the blog, and developing both classes and the training site. It’s been busy!

Patriot Dawn: The Resistance Rises

Now, as a website and training business owner, it is true that lots of blog posts generate clicks and interest. If there is no free chicken, people drift away. Sad really ;-)

However, there is only so much use you can derive from reading. You can read articles and develop a theoretical knowledge, or you can read them and add some depth to training you are already doing, if you have a baseline of competence. But you cannot assimilate competence through reading. It is background information that will be brought to life through training.

I have also noticed that even students that are actually at training are often unaware of a particular article or training development, simply because everyone is busy and don’t read everything on the blog. I get that. There are however, hundreds of useful articles on the blog! So I am going to start a systematic process of re-posting a lot of the useful posts that may be now buried in the blog.

The other side of that is that if you are reading MVT in an attempt to increase your tactical ability, I cannot stress more how you really need to come to a training class. However you need to persuade the wife, you need to make it happen.

There is also the MVT Forum where there are a lot of knowledgeable members, and you will likely get questions answered there, and you can even ask the cadre/moderators. More subject matter expert member articles there would also be useful. *hint* Lot’s of free chicken there!

Thanks.

  1. Not to be a dick, BUT, I still see guys show up at class and have problems with things that have been posted here and on the forum and have to wonder some times.

Lots of good info here. Makes sense to read it before attending class. Like weapons prep (OIL), equipment prep (…never mind), clothing (as in ponchos being a NO-GO), that sort of thing.

  2. Their is only so much you can get from reading and “research” before you have to get out and experience it.

Survivalist suffer sometimes from not knowing the difference between information and knowledge.

Having books on a topic (or hard disks for today’s nerd ;) ) doesn’t mean you have KNOWLEDGE on a topic. You have to experience it, preferably learn under a good instructor, improve on things you need to improve on, etc. From knowledge and training comes experience.

“On the job training” (OJT) isn’t going to be a good option if TSHTF!!!

  3. Thanks for the free chicken–it helped me go from “I don’t know what I don’t know” to “I know what I don’t know” and realizing that the next step is actual training. Not everyone will take that third step, but your free chicken is some of the best advertising (for your books AND your training) that you can do.

Your class AARs are very useful, but your free chicken adds another dimension. One is “MVT is a great place to train to do some stuff” and the other is “The Stuff” that helps differentiate MVT from square range training.

Ain’t that the truth of it.
It’s one thing to pay lip service to something, it’s another to actually attempt to do it.
