Review: HEAT 2 Combat Patrol: Ryan

I just took HEAT 2 from 10/10-10/13 2024, and it was another level up from HEAT 1 in complexity as expected. It was my second time taking any sort of tactical instruction.

These classes continue to drive home two major truths for me. The first is that none of these time-proven tactics are possible with a pick up team. The second is all the reading in the world cannot replace what the classes provide, which is hands-on experience with advising from guys who know these tactics well. They put in a hell of an effort to provide for a wide range of scenarios. That alone cannot be praised enough.

As before, safety is paramount to the eagle-eyed instructors. I have not once felt at risk during drills, and I am impressed with the level of attention given to safety at every step. These are inherently dangerous activities, but they have it locked down.

Not sure what my next class will be, but it will be well worth the plane ticket to do it. If the school was closer, then I would be attending more often.

To anyone reading this who is on the fence about taking any classes along these lines, you owe it to yourself to take the plunge and learn while the opportunity is available.
