I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I were to walk into a convenience store and saw anyone walking around with an axe* my first inclination is not to get right up on them and have conversation.

*The only place that it probably wouldn’t look out pf place is Lowe’s, Home Depot or a hardware store. I’m still not going to get that close to them. Tueller drill anyone?

Couldn’t tell if assailant was male or female….tweaking?? (meth)

Gives a whole nether meaning to the phrase “crazy blonde” (male or female, you fill it in….)

That’s got to be the most insane example of “blissful ignorance” I have ever seen!

If someone finds more information regarding the aftermath I would love to hear about it.

So you think he asked for her number? ;-)

He looked away for a second and she dropped him. The Sasquatch wasn’t paying attention and got dropped as well. Those two were at the mercy of a criminal she could have very easily finished them both off.

This is where articulation becomes a factor. An ax is a deadly weapon. There is no common use of it in public. It is night time. In a convenience store which are typically targets for robbery (a violent felony).

That right there is enough of a warning for you to get out of the area and call the police. If you drew a weapon and started giving commands you would be well within your rights.

What happens after that is all on them but you can easily articulate a belief that crime was afoot and you were acting to stop it. No you’re not the police but if you’re at the back getting a slurpee how are you going to exit without getting inside her swing arc?

A good argument can even be made for the fleeing felon rule (back shooting the bitch). That was 2 counts of aggravated malicious wounding (violent felony) at the minimum and attempted murder (violent felony duh) at the maximum. She was armed, had just committed two violent felonies, was an ongoing and immediate threat to the public (people in parking lot, gas pumps, clerk) and unlikely to be apprehended another way.

Anyone carrying an ax, bat, pipe etc should be given a wide berth. Same with people wearing masks, hoodies and pocket hands.

I’ll add a plug for OC spray here. You can give this girl a quick spritz and bounce. It’s non-leathal and relatively effective. Plus you can leave and call police after, if you so choose. If you get charged (doubtful) a good attorney will get you off or at worse plead it down to a misdemeanor.

                Articulation is key.

It wouldn’t take a “rocket scientist” to sell the need to stop a “axe murderer” dead in her tracks after such an attack! At least in all but the most Socialist of locals.

I don’t normally discuss this aspect with anyone but the most serious CCW citizens. A relatively rare occurrence beyond LEO’s fortunately.

OC spray? This woman just used deadly force on two people. There is no doubt what I would use in this situation. This video is classic. Carrying an axe into a convenience store is “not normal” behavior! You have to be aware of your surroundings and what is out of place-this was out of place. People that behave in a manner that is out of place need to be approached with extreme caution.

Wild the lengths people will go not to offend someone, even with a damn weapon in their face.

OC spray as a force alternative before you get smashed in the face, not after. When she walks in with it in one hand or when it’s down by her hips. If you don’t want to go ahead and grab her or shoot her which are your only real options. Neither are good. OC fills that gap between physical force and deadly force while giving you some distance. It’s cheap, easy to use, readily available and simple. Surviving is about options.

He asked for his hormone drugs while incarcerated. Motive?

Also, I completely missed seeing the large knife in the back left pocket until this article pointed it out.

Wow. Just seeing this. I find thew lack of damage from the axe interesting. Didn’t seem to chop into them at all. Maybe the womans belly? He may have got his shoulder up onto the haft and thus slowed penetration to his face? The woman’s large dread bun may have stopped the blow to the back of her head?

I mean wow. (Apparent) chick with an axe! Wonder if it was obvious up close to the guy that (s)he was trans?

Just surprised no more damage done. And the attacker didn’t hang around to deliver more blows and finish the job. What was the motive?

If you are the guy and this appears next to you, then of course don’t dismiss the (threat) and turn away. But until you can get out to drawing range, being close in this situation will give you a better chance of stopping the axe if it starts coming at you. If you can stop the axe, it’s either hand to hand or ECQ drawing with one hand.

I mean honestly, if this chick tried to swing at me at the range the guy was at, it would be easy to stop the swing and just destroy. As long as you were looking and registering the threat. But if the guy was a 7′ monster? No doubt alarms would be going off at longer range though….

Walking around in Condition White will get you fucked up or dead. Pay attention when you go about your daily routine to people. Watch just how unaware they are.

@Max – I don’t think that it got a solid hit on the first guy. Enough to fuck him up, but not as bad as it could have been. He was bleeding pretty bad.

The axe blow broke Mr Rimmer’s eye socket, cheek bone and caused a 10cm wound from the bridge of his nose to the left eyelid.

As Max observed axe was too close for a more effective strike, which could have been countered.

Ms Hacker suffered “a fracture to the base of the skull” but her “very thick bundle of dreadlocks down her head and neck cushioned the impact of the blow somewhat”.

Fortunately the second strike was a glancing blow.

The 18cm long knife could have been more dangerous, had attacked been more competent.

At this distance as soon as the axe was swung back he needed to close ground and throat strike. This would have put him inside of its ooda loop and inside of swing radius. Thumbs to eyes may have worked also. This does take training, awareness, and mindset all of which this victim seemed to lack. Too bad.

There is crazy, and then there is axe crazy…

I like to think I would just leave or at least retrograde to the back of the store. I usually just beat feet when there are crazies doing crazy stuff in town, but I am sure I have missed one.

I assume this is where the advice to look for/at a potential aggressor’s hands comes from.

I wonder what the guy said to the attacker.

On a slightly different note, I find people vastly underestimate what someone can do with a knife, if they are determined and have a clue on what to do with it.

                                          A concealed pistol isn’t a magic talisman.

(From Baltimore, the joke was too easy.)

Seems this was in Australia, so no right to self-defense there.

I would hope the cashier hit the panic button as soon as she walked in, I’ve spammed the shit out of mine for far less when I was one.
