I ran and exercised in my new Danner Tachyon boot today. They seem lighter than my New Balance running shoes and worked out well except for getting them tight. I tried the hiker’s trick in front of the ankle, but discovered that doesn’t work too well without the offset eyes.

Are there any tricks to getting these tight across the front of the ankle?

I’m not sure if this is what you tried, but I don’t know how eyelets would matter for the technique below, just trying it a different spots along the ankle:

            You can skip eyelets too.

I did the trick that JM posted, but it is halfway up the eyelets. That picture shows a shoe with the modification at the top. Typically, a pair of hiking boots has hooks and a pair of offset hooks at the bend. This allows you to keep the half hitch inline and then lace on up the boot by lacing in the hooks. That doesn’t work with the speedlace system.

I will keep researching and trying different tricks and report back.
