In the early 1960’s Special Operations Research Office (SORO) of The American University, operating under contract with the Department of the Army, conducted research on military problems in support of requirements stated by the Department of the Army. SORO provided through the Counterinsurgency Information Analysis Center (CINFAC) rapid responses to queries from Department of Defense agencies, their contractors, and as directed, other governmental departments and agencies.

This work has now been updated and new volumes created. The Assessing Revolutionary and Insurgent Strategies (ARIS) series consists of a set of case studies and research conducted for the US Army Special Operations Command by the National Security Analysis Department of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

The ARIS series follows in the tradition of research conducted by the Special Operations Research Office (SORO) of American University in the 1950s and 1960s, by adding new research to that body of work and in several instances releasing updated editions of original SORO studies.

The above ARIS Studies are now available.

            Both are worth your time.

“The Legal Status of Personnel in Resistance” Figure 1-1 Continuum of categories of resistance. Located PDF page 18 (physical page 6) maybe of interest.

The entire ARIS has much to offer!
