Calling for Backup – PD Reviews!
I just checked – it’s 15:45 hours on the second day of the two day free kindle download for Patriot Dawn.
9997 copies downloaded free so far!
The problem: I am now out of cover, fully exposed in the open to incoming fire from the trolls. Requesting fire support!
There are some good reviews popping up, but a couple of bad ones from obvious haters.
If you have read it and liked it, please take a moment to give it a 5 star on Amazon. I’m certainly getting the message out with the free download, but there will be blowback – it already took a hit from 4.2 to 4.1 stars.
Here are a couple of the offending reviews (bold is mine)
1 Star: “I can’t believe people are buying this pure garbage. Totally unrealistic and anti the U.S. government. The gun nuts and tea partiers will probably love it, but everyone else should run hard in the opposite direction. Poor characterization, military stuff not even accurate (Really? Military stuff not accurate? Ignorant idiot). Plenty of typos. Garbage, garbage!” Granby Fella
1 Star: “This book flunked the 50 page test, which means if a story fails to engage me in 50 pages, onto the junk pile it goes. In order to buy into the plot, one must be willing to overcome all rational thought and agree with the most preposterous ludicrous laughable prologue ever written. Reading how the entire United States is taken down by a plane load of terrorists was silly enough (not what happened, obvious reading comprehension error); reading how one guy and his teenage son wipe out four truckloads of armed paramilitary “bad guys” was downright painful (obviously my tactical description and lessons made little impression on this one). The writing was sophomoric and sadly in need of editing. The constant use of the term “bugged out” really bugged me! If you’re willing to check your brains at the door, read the book. I mean, it is my first novel. It’s not going to be perfect. I know for a fact that a lot of the editorial criticism, of grammar etc, is unfounded. You MUST put a comma here, after every ‘and’ etc. Well, no, you don’t in fact. However, grammar and my personal use of language is one thing. But for some chick to say my tactics suck? Hell.
Anyway, if you can do a ‘5 Star’, please do.
I am currently writing the sequel.

point is thoguh.. to market something like it I need tell people to look at it as a novelization of a tactical manual and read it as that.
And it fills that role fantastic. : )
Dropped a 5 star for you. You deserve it, great book with a great learning curve. Almost finished it. Glad I paid for it instead of getting it free this weekend, you deserve to be paid for it!

Have e copies of all your books and hard copy of the second edition of Contact. I have given each book 5 stars. I check ur blog site everyday and take what you say seriously. Your teaching folks light infantry tactics are highly important. Wish more instructors taught this vice square range shooting.
Keep up the great work and just know there are folks out there that support you.
I bought both Contact and Rapid Fire to support the cause. It’s like the days of Noah in Amerika now. So many haters standing in the rain telling you that your boat sucks and its stupid.

If these assholes can review the book without reading it or after the “50 page Test” we can too. I’m heading over to give it 5 stars. The first three chapters are reading equivalent of watching an action movie. I’m hooked!
About 3/4 through the book right now. Will definitely be buying contact! at the least. After that ill get rapid fire. Too much good information to not get a hard copy. Thanks for writing these. Will give review when finished.
I got a chuckle at the “typos” comment- Being a (small) grammar nazi I notice when there’s “plenty” of them in any book.
There were more in “Patriots” than this, yet that’s been pretty well received…
For a first book I was actually rather pleasantly surprised. Unless we’re actually going to count comma’s now….
Also, if you’re a libtard, and you see a book with a cover that has a couple guys with ARs in the woods with a title like “patriot dawn” why the hell would you read it knowing the direction it’s likely to go…?
I swear it’s like they don’t even think.

That being said- Max, if you remember that ridiculously long email I sent you a while back, I tried to explain what I think is being seen on the “characters”/storyline side of the negative comments (and yes, some of my own theory too…:D ). I *get* that this is your first crack at a novel (I’ve been working on a small project for a while myself, and getting nowhere), so I don’t think anyone *here* is expecting perfection on the first try- that being said there is some merit to these specific comments.
The thing is, you have to look at them from THEIR point of view.
You’re talking about people that either clicked on it because it was in the “customers also bought” list, or because a friend told them about it or they just “heard” about a new SHTF-themed novel.
So they’re expecting a Patriots-esque sort of book- a lot of story with some tidbits on survival thrown in.
They don’t KNOW that it’s meant to be more of a tactical illustration, because they’ve never been here or read Contact, so when they get hit in the face with all the mil-speak and big guns and battles, with less emphasis on plot and characters the instinctive reaction is “WTF?”
The good news is, this is a (relatively) easy to solve issue.
The bad news is, the real morons are here to stay…. :P

You wont ever find this book on the NYT best seller list, and its clear the author is not the best fiction writer of this genre. However, it is entertaining, heart felt, and the author is clearly passionate about the subject matter. More importantly than that, though, if you are like me, a prepper looking for insight into tactical training, you will not find a more thought provoking, useful work of fiction on the market. Max addresses several security concerns regarding a TEOTWAWKI event that simply are not even considered in other books in the genre. If you are looking for ‘gone with the wind’ for the doomsday prepper set, look elsewhere, but if you are looking to begin an education in tactics and procedures for resisting tyranny in a world gone mad, Ive not found a better first step.
Read through 1st for the entertainment, marking pages as I went.Now rereading with a hiliter and a copy of ranger handbook.Since I wasn’t infantry(USAF) Max’s book makes that FM a whole lot easier to understand.
