And now, for something completely different:
Some will recognize the Monty Python reference.
While looking for some YouTube on the Pebble Island Airfield Raid in 1982 for the ‘Observations on the GWERU AIRFIELD Planning Task‘ post, I came across the clip that I added with a soundtrack by Sabaton: ‘Back in Control.’ Well, I just had to post that, awesome!
Which led me to this video by same. ‘Swedish Pagans:’
And would you believe it, they also have one on the sniper Simo Häyhä, which the hunters will love: ‘White Death:’
And to those who say: “But Max, why?” I give you my response:
If you’d had my weekend, you would understand
Till Valhalla!
Max

We had a pretty good weekend up here. The group conducted a scout of a new TA, and got in some simple target shooting before we stepped off. Ive been trying to fit this area into a training plan for a while and I finally got started on it. Our days worth of spent time, energy, and money to make the scout happen was profitable. This TA offers a bit of everything we want and nothing we dont want.

The guys were nice enough to let me dump two mags just to do it since I’m not an M4 guy. They’re trying to convert me.

We’re going back for a drill to go far and go deep. It was a good day with lots of PT and feeling the burn. The sun was high and warm, sky was blue and i even got a sun burn.. The gods approved. As to ppl asking why. I simply tell them if they need to ask, the answer i give them will just confuse them more…

Nice. Reminds me of when I was a wee lad, stationed up at Elmendorf AFB.
This is gonna sound funny but the terrain is strangely similar to my old AO in Kali. You have these vast open areas, with vegetated marginal areas throughout. Substitute sand for snow and there you are.
No not strange at all. There’s many places here one could mistake for the Highland of the UK or other places. Many places look like the Alps or even Eastern Europe. One place it never looks like is the East Coast or the Appalachians.
There isn’t much, if any, open space in my immediate area anywhere other then the frozen lakes we were crossing but compared all in all, to the dense skanky mess we always get into in my southern area, we were walking in the Great Plains! 98% of what Ive been in here that wasn’t on a mnt was an all but impassible mess of falling trees, alder twists and thickets, and devils club. You cant imagine. Its like doing gymnastics and being a contortionist getting through most places, or playing Twister in full kit…
The new guy in our group made a comment about how skanky and dense the area was, Car Jak looked at me and we both laughed. He hasn’t been out as much as we have so he didn’t know how bad it could actually be or how easy this area was for the going. It was a much welcome relief that this area was as it was.

Good tunes.
Who cares why? Good tunes!
Make no apologies- Sabaton rocks!
And I love how all their songs are historically based. :)
And if you haven’t heard it yet, one of my favorites is “40 to 1” about the WW2 battle of Wizna in Poland.
(video included with gratuitous laser gun sounds effects and blatant US gear. Oh well…:P )

This is exactly what I was thinking of when looking at the planning scenario. Back to the roots of the SAS deconstructing aircraft. These guys got on line and commenced to shoot up hardware. Speed and violence of action.
Not to say you couldn’t DO it as conventional infantry, with mortar and machinegun support, however my inclination would be to hit lightning quick, lay down a massive volume of fire, and get the fuck out of there before the gooks could get their shit together.
The best use of the friendly troopies would be to “ring the fire alarm” on the other side of the base, and/or set up ambush positions to cover the withdrawal.
Just my favorite COA. YMMV of course.
[…] have asked me if all is all right in Max world, due to my post the other day with this photo […]
Sabaton is currently touring the US, with Iced Earth, if that music is your thing, great time to catch them live.
