Written by Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha, this covers the story of the Battle of Kamdesh, defending COP Keating in the Nuristan province of Afghanistan in 2009.

It’s VERY much focused at the individual (multiple people’s perspectives) and sub-squad level. Does a great job of describing the situation and really puts you in the head of many of the guys. It’s probably one of the more intensely written combat books I’ve read. The tactical position of the COP, in addition to their posture/readiness (higher’s fault) provides a stark contrast to another book I recommended recently, here. I know it’s too different wars/eras, but at least to me, is a signal of how things have changed (and not for the better). Those guys get a lot of credit for not getting completely rolled up.

This one is well worth the read, if you haven’t already.
